INTRODUCTION
In CES2014 held in LasVegas, Rockchip had announced the newest Quad Core chip—RK3288. After a long time waiting, fortunately, I got Pipo P1. Now, I am happy to share user experience with you guys.
These accessories are included in the package: a tablet, a power adapter, a Micro-HDMI cable, a Micro-USB cable, an earphone.
HARDWARE
First, let’s have a good look at the specs:

Weight: 649g |
Screen size: 9.7 inch |
Screen resolution: 2048*1536 (Retina IPS ) |
Battery:10000mAh |
Internal storage:32GB eMMC NAND |
External storage:32GB(max) |
Camera: Front 2M, back 8M auto focus, flashlight |
CPU: Rockchip 3288 Cortex A17,1.6GHz, Quad-core CPU |
GPU: ARM Mali-T764 |
RAM: 2GB LPDDR3 |
Operating system: Android 4.4.2 |
Others: 4K and H.265HEVC, Built-in GPS receiver, G-sensor, Gyro sensor, E-compass, mini HDMI output, |
Well, it does come with solid hardware. I will test them later.
At first glance, the tablet is not attractive—all black hood, wide bezels, all- glass front with metal wiredrawing’s rear cover.
The top of the tablet is very busy: headphone jack, MIC, Charging interface, Micro-USB port, mini HDMI port, TF card port and power button are residing on the top. Volume rocker and ESC button (a little surprise) are just on the left.
The front camera sits in the top left camera, while the rear camera (with a flashlight) is in the top right corner. And the speaker resides in the top right corner in the front.
In my daily use, the ESC button gives me a surprise—a convenient button when exiting apps. But I feel tired when I hold the device in one-hand for long time, and the 649g weight is not satisfied.
RK3288&Mali-T764
RK3288 and Mali-T764 are the selling points of P1. RK3288 adopt 28 NANO technology, used the Quad Core Cortex A17 and Mali T764, the CPU frequency reaches 1.8 GHz.
One of the biggest advantages of RK3288 from architecture is that the A17 use the same out-of-orderexecution with double instruction decofer, double AGU and multi issue as the A15 does, but the A17 has a great promotion in instruction execution. To keep the same power dissipation, the performance of single thread for A17 improved 40% than those of A9.
Mali T764 uses the third generation of Midgrads, which is redesigned in the internal architecture, especially the great change for the configuration of shader . For example, the number of the sharder for Mali T764 is 8, which is double of T654. Its performance reaches 82GFLOPS, 2400M pixels, which has improves 4 times of Mali T604 and 5 times of Mali-400MP4. Shortly, it is one of the fastest movable GPU.
Well, the benchmarks seem more authority:
Antutu
Vellamo
Nenamark2
All the scores seem amazing. Well, the practice is more important.
Video
Taking advantage of RK3288’s video decoding capability, P1 supports most video format.
Here is Antutu Video test.
Considering Mali T764 supports 4K*2K video playing, I played two videos on it:
Crysis 2 trailer, 1080p, flv
4K-Chimei-inn-60mbps
Surprise! Even the 4K video can be played smoothly on the table. This is the first tablet I’ve seen that can play 4Kvideo, it must benefit from the RK3288.
Game
To achieve the full potential of the device, I tested two big games—call of duty.
Along with the gorgeous screen, the FPS game runs smoothly, what’s more, the smog and water wave can be seen clearly. Then I test Asphalt8, NBA 2K14, both work well on the device.
Display
P1 comes with a retina IPS display, with a resolution of 2048*1536. To be more accurate, I use the APP–display tester– to test the screen.
Let’s see the visual effects:
Colors are vivid and saturated.
I can see the words from sharp angels.
Colors are natural.
Camera
I take a still of sky.
Um, the blue color seems without partial.
When shooting in macro, the picture is fine.
PROS Cons
Solid CPU and GPU a little heavy
Support 4K video press too hard
Gorgeous screen
